Even Google struggled to tell me what this was called. I literally googled instant noodles since 1981 because that was all I could read on the bowl.

GS Retail YouUs Teum-Sae Spicy Noodle Big Bowl is what it's called. Made since 1981! Actually it looks like this exact bowl might have came from the same era. Bold logo, and just butt-loads of red. There's some Korean shouting at me too.

The container appears to be filled with air, and opening the lid halfway exposes the noodle cake, broth powder and dried veg. The lid is one of those cheap lift halfway back and add water ones, where the lid just sorta hopefully seals back down. The directions are exclusively Korean, but it's much the same as every other instant noodle. Add broth and dried veg to noodle cake and fill with boiling water to the line. With hopes and dreams the only thing keeping the lid closed, we wait around for the noods to soften and the kinda pungent broth to infuse. Don't sniff the steam, the heat convects the spiciest feeling ever into your nostrils and you will cough enough to nearly empty the contents of the foam bowl onto your lap... or so I did. It does kinda smell nice though, with nori and mushroom notes. Quintessentially, it smells like spicy Korean noodles.

The broth is actually fairly light, but it is spicy. Like you just took a bite of fresno chillis. It's refreshing and not salty at all. There is some subtle umami from mushrooms too.

Overall: 7/10

- Suprisingly balanced and spicy

- Spicy

- Doesn't lie
