too cool for capitals: where's paldo?

Updated: Dec 23, 2019

paldo's Kimchi Flavor noodles packs a punchy bright colour scheme, but is the umami as vibrant as the orange background?

I'd tell you if I didn't rip my instructions in half.

No really.. the shrink wrap around the bowl is the instructions, advertisting, pretty much everything colourful. They are in Korean, and like the other of my oriental-less chings, I can't read them. There's a couple of drawings denoting fingers touching something, so I assumed you rip there. I mean there is a seam and everything.

No, what you're supposed to do is tear along the perforated line. See it?

Look closer... closer... till your nose pretty much touches the bowl.

No you freaking tear there, and it conveniently rips a pocket perfect for removing the bowl from the packing... instructions intact...

OK but anyway, at this point I'm too hungry to yell, so let's wing it. So we have a red bowl with a white lid. This one half clips on, so props for that. The first (or second) thing you notice is a noodle cake without indididual packaging. Yay turtles. What you get as a result is a stale noodle cake. It smells kinda good, like some spices and msg. You also get a pack of dried condiments and a sachet of soup base. Although mine was solid due to some moisture. Acording to paldofood.com add enclosed sachets and hot water up to line, before leaving for 3 minutes.

I was expecting a much stronger inital taste, however this thing has some nuances. It's smooth and mild, the spice feels natural and it's not too salty. It's not overpowering, and you even get dehydrated shards of kimchi, fish cake slices and julienne carrots.

Overall, 7/10

- Real spices

- Balanced flavour

- Likes all music
